Conduct / Court Demeanor
“It’s all about the Game”
Conduct during a basketball game.
It’s not about one player; it’s about a situation and frame of mind.
We seem to go through cycles. We post something to address issues, then everything is fine for a while and then it starts again.
It must be stopped at its source, or this league will be just like every other.
So - in closing, I will post here one more time regarding it and hope that it does not become an issue…
Basketball has rules that govern almost all actions on the court and on the sidelines. Players need to respect those rules and officials need to enforce those rules …
✍️ By the way… Refs are sometimes partially responsible for eventual technical fouls because, they try to be “nice” and allow players to vent their frustration without letting them know that it was inappropriate. The player takes that as a signal that it’s okay. … “It’s Not!“
So, what happens? .. next time, that player and others take it a step further.. and it escalates to the point that it either gets out of hand and it’s no longer controllable … or the refs “finally” clamp down.
Then comes the argument from players and coaches (as it has on occasion) … “You haven’t been calling it like that all night and now…” 😏
Point taken!👍🏽 … It should have been stopped 🛑 the first time. 🤷🏽♂️
That’s just like the foul at the end of the game when players are trying to stop the clock and put somebody on the line.
Sometimes officials don’t call the simple foul, when the player commits it, and that forces the defender to hit the player harder the next time, and he’ll continue to hit him harder until the foul is called.
Then when the foul is finally called because it’s so hard that it can’t be ignored. … They give the defender an unsportsmanlike foul. That could’ve all been avoided if they had called the first simple foul. … Just an example of how things can escalate when simpe situations are ignored 😏
“Taunting / Disruptive-Instigating Behavior”
We have all been around the game long enough to realize that playful bantering, “a.k.a” Trash-Talk, can be a “fun” part of the game.
When it turns into disparaging comments, personal insults, foul language, language that incites anger… that’s where the fun stops.
It doesn’t matter if it’s aimed at a player or an official… It will not be tolerated.
Those who cannot control their language or their tempers will be penalized accordingly.
There is no “standard situation”.
The Video detailing Court Conduct and Demeanor should answer any questions.
Intentional Fouls
An intentional foul is a foul that is deemed to have been committed purposefully. Intentional fouls are generally obvious calls for a referee to make, as the defense makes it clear they are trying to commit a foul, usually by wrapping up an offensive player.
Rule: 6.3
An intentional foul is a personal or technical foul designed to stop or keep the clock from starting; or to neutralize an opponent's obvious advantageous situation, including contact away from the ball or when not playing the ball.
🗣 “When there is no attempt to play the ball” it shall be deemed an “intention foul.”
* ‼️ Exception!‼️ At the end of close games (last 2:00) when it is obvious that teams are attempting to stop the clock, with “Tactical Touch-Fouls” “these may be recognized without the application of the intentional foul interpretation.”
👉🏽 Penalty for an Intentional Foul is 2 shots whether the shot goes in or not... the only exception is that a missed 3 pointer will result in 3 shots...and they get the ball back at the spot nearest the foul.
‼️‼️During games the “Team Bench Areas” may “only” be occupied by players of the teams currently playing a game.
👉🏽 No Spectators permitted.
👉🏽 Players from the previous game must vacate the bench area before the game can begin.
👉🏽 Players who have been ejected “must”leave the court area!
🗣️ From the official UH Rules:
“Any player who is ejected from the game, must leave court immediately and have a formal 1-Minute count to exit.
There will be NO exceptions, or your membership may be revoked.
Ongoing/post-game harassment will be entered as an additional season tech. The referee will have the right to call and forfeit the game if player does not leave within the 1-Minute time frame.
Ultimate Hoops Jerseys
Branded Ultimate Hoops Jerseys are mandatory by the 2nd Game of the Season for New (first time) Players.
“New Players” must have an Ultimate Hoops Jersey by the second game of the season.
Failure to comply (by Game-3) will result in four (4) points and the ball being awarded to the opposing team … for each infraction.
Persistence might result in suspension until..🤷🏽♂️
Players without a jersey must have a white/light colored (Home) or black/dark colored (Away) shirt if they do not have an Ultimate Hoops Jersey.
‼️Returning Players‼️.. must have an Ultimate Hoops Jersey.
Our goal is not to became a police state. We simply want to get back to and maintain the environment that we once had…
“Good basketball in a Fun environment.”
